This June, we had our first residency at the Tonic Room. Every Wednesday night, we were so fortunate to have the opportunity to have a party with all of our Chicago peeps. Thanks to everyone at the Tonic Room for putting us up and thanks to all of our fans that made it out to the shows.
We had such an awesome time last weekend at Phish. Not only did we catch some of the best Phish shows this leg of the tour; we also made some new fans, played some awesome gigs with U.V. Hippo in Terra Haute and Chicago, and had a blast camping and playing at the Close By Campground (minus the nasty thunderstorm that mangled my tent). All in all, one of the best weekends we’ve had in a while. See you all at the Petunia Festival on the 4th!!!
Every time we head to Lafayette, Indiana, we know we are in for a good time. Traveling down to the Mosey Down Main Street Festival we reminicsed about several great memories just in this past year. Some of these include the last bash at Scagnoli’s and being shut down by the West Lafayette Police at 4 A.M. during a Late Night Grand Prix party at Purdue University. We love you guys and can’t wait to see you in the fall! Here are some videos from the Mosey Down Main Street Festival to tide you over til then.
We are so excited to be able to see Phish again. We are busting out are old tents and hitting the road for the Midwest shows and playing some of our own along the way.
First, come check us out at our Thursday Pre-Pre-Party at the Verve in Terra Haute with our friends UV HIPPO (only an hour an a half from Deer Creek… http://www.mapquest.com/mq/7-Sl14BB*D7ovfdOj4 )
Then come stay at the Close By Campground Thursday and Friday night. Be sure to check out our Phish Pre-Party set Friday afternoon. We will be playing all day up until the big Deer Creek show. http://www.closebycampground.com/index.htm
Before and After the Phish show make sure to grab a Strange Arrangement 2009 Summer Sampler. We will be handing out thousands of free Strange discs, so you have some great tunes to listen to on your drive to Alpine Valley.
And if that isn’t enough, come rage with us and UV HIPPO again for a Post-Phish show at Reggies Music Joint on Monday.
While were talking about Phish, check out “Mo” (w/Joel Cummins) from Martyr’s on December 19, 2008.
A tune written about our crazy trip to the Great Went festival.
CANT WAIT TO SEE PHISH AND ALL YOUR BEAUTIFUL SMILING FACES!!!!!!
This past weekend was a blast! Last week we bought our van, affectionately named Midnight Blue, and hit the road down to Cincinnati, Yellow Springs, and Athens OH. Let me start by saying how much the first 2 bands we shared the bill with in Cinci ruled…Wade Baker Jazz sounded like a mix of Miles Davis, James Brown, and Al Green. Pretty sick! Also, Rumpke Mountain Boys were very tight, mixing tight bluegrass picking, great vocal harmonies and super funky grooves. Also, the nicest guys ever! Travis, thanks for doing sound man.
Yellow Springs is one of the coolest towns we have ever visited! Rolling into town and reading all the store names, Dark Star Books, etc. we knew we had found a new home away from home. We hung in a coffee shop for hours that also doubled as a cool wine tasting room and music venue. Peaches Bar turned out to be quite a great place to play! Tom the sound engineer was extremely on point and was really cool about the whole thing! We also got to stay in a Cottage with a hot tub and pool table in it!!!! Could it get any better??
As for Athens, what else do I need to say but great micro brewed beer, super nice and receptive music lovers, and a great stage with a competent sound engineer. We had blast playing at Jackie O’s and look forward to going back soon! We played two sets and tried out a few new things we’ve been working on. The van ride back was hilarious! We listened to a radio show with this hunter dude talking all about shooting only mature deer. He doesn’t really like to shoot young deer, only “mature deer”. It was one the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. Also, we managed to listen to Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” about 20 times! Good times…..
Hey Hey, it’s a new year and we can’t wait to start driving around the country again! The holidays were a lot of fun, especially New Year’s Eve in Kalamazoo at The State Theater with Green Sky Bluegrass, Stepin In it, and Seth Bernard and Daisy May! I had a blast at the show. Kudos to everyone involved! The touring has really paid off, these bands are off the hook!!!! Also, Papa Pete’s was blown up with Macpodz and Four Finger Five! Thanks to Four Finger Five for letting me sit in! You guys are the shit! The groove from these two bands really kept the night rolling! Cheers guys!
What a great night at Martyrs’ last night! Three great bands, all our favorite friends and family, and two musicians sitting in with Strange. Joel Cummins from Umphrey’s sat in on keys for 3 tunes and our close friend Molly Kirk sat in on Vocals on 3 as well. Joel’s keys on the Moog were out of control! We will have podcasts of the show on our website soon! JOBU sounded great for the first set of the night and really got things started right! I have been looking forward to hearing them again for a long time and was not let down! My Dear Disco put out a high energy set that left the audience dancing during the changeover music! Their new record, “Dance, Think, Music” is definetely worth checking out!
Thanks to everyone who came out to the show! We had a blast! We are looking forward to the New Year! See you in 09′.
